ACCOLATE

Accolates
Pronounced: ACK-o-late
Generic name: Zafirlukast
Accolate helps prevent asthma attacks. However should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that has already started. It is prescribed for long-term treatment.
The following are the average doses of Zafirlukast and your dose may be different. Do not change your dosage unless instructed by your doctor.
ADULTS
The usual dose for adults and children 12 years of age and over is 20 milligrams twice a day. Food may change the amount of Zafirlukast that is absorbed by the body and for this reason; it should be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before meals or 2-3 hours after a meal).
CHILDREN
The usual dose for children 7 to 11 years of age is 10 milligrams twice a day. Safety and effectiveness in children under 7 years of age have not been established.
