Generic Name estropipate
Estrogen is a female hormone that is produced by the ovaries. Once menopause is reached the ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone and symptoms of menopause can occur. This drug is an estrogen replacement hormone used for the management of menopausal symptoms such as abnormal uterine bleeding hot flashes sweating and chills. The dose should be adjusted to the minimum required to control symptoms. Usually the drug is taken for 21 to 25 days of the month followed by 5 to 7 days of rest. Women who have had a hysterectomy may take the tablets daily. Women who have not had a hysterectomy will often take the drug along with a progestogen (such as progesterone or medroxyprogesterone acetate) to reduce the risk of endometrial (uterine) cancer.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs such as body weight other medical conditions and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a different dose than the ones listed here do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
