Pantoloc
Pronounced: Pant-a-lock
Generic name: Pantoprazole sodium
Pantoloc or Protonix as it is referred to in the United States blocks the production of stomach acid. Pantoloc is prescribed to heal a condition called erosive esophagitis (a severe inflammation of the passage to the stomach) brought on by a persistent backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Later it may be prescribed to maintain healing and prevent a relapse.
Pantoloc is a member of the proton pump inhibitor class of acid blockers which includes AcipHex Nexium Prilosec and Prevacid.
ADULTS
The usual dose is 40 milligrams once a day for up to 8 weeks. If your esophagus hasnt healed in that time your doctor may prescribe an additional 8-week course of therapy. The same dose is used to maintain healing.
