Foradil is an asthma medication that relaxes the muscles in the walls of the airways allowing them to expand. When taken on a twice-daily basis it helps to control asthma and can be used to prevent tightening of the airways (bronchospasm) in patients who need regular treatment with short-acting inhalers including those with night-time asthma.

Taken on an as-needed basis Foradil can also be used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm (also called exercise-induced asthma) in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

* Foradil should not be used for acute asthma attacks.

ASTHMA

For the long-term control of asthma in adults and children 5 years of age and older the recommended dosage is 12mcg (1 capsule for inhalation) every 12 hours. The maximum recommended dose is 48mcg (4 capsules for inhalation) per day.

PREVENTION OF EXERCISE-INDUCED ASTHMA

For adults and children 12 years of age and older the recommended dosage is 12mcg (1 capsule for inhalation) at least 15 minutes before exercise. If a second dose is needed the same day it must be taken at least 12 hours after the first dose. If you are already taking Foradil on a regular twice-daily basis do not take additional doses before exercise.
